El Gato Blend

El Gato has earned a permanent spot in my rotation. What keeps me coming back is its consistency: every bag delivers the same comforting flavor profile of baked apple, plum, and dark chocolate. There's something to be said for a coffee you can count on — the kind where the aroma hits you the moment you open the bag and start brewing, and it's exactly the smell you've come to love every morning.

I brew it in the Chemex or French press and always drink it black. It holds up beautifully that way, with those baked apple and plum notes staying bright while the dark chocolate gives it enough depth to feel rich without anything getting in the way.

A bonus with Intelligentsia is their seasonal blends, which offer some great extra choices when you want to branch out. I subscribed to their monthly subscription for a while, and while I enjoyed it, I found over time that I preferred to dial in my own favorites — a few of the monthly selections just weren't for me. These days I'd rather order what I know I love than roll the dice each month.

Bottom line: El Gato is a "take my money" coffee. Consistent, comforting, and exactly what I want in a daily cup.
