Upgrade

One thing I like about Blake Crouch is that he writes about technology just before it arrives, and about what it costs once it's here. The premise of Upgrade revolves around gene editing, and this was years before SpudCell creation and AI being able to support real progress in genetic and scientific research.

Logan Ramsay, the main character, ends up battling with and against the very things he had set out to stop in his work.

I have been reading a lot of books that are 600 to 800 pages lately, so in that sense I would call this a quick read. I still recommend this book to others, but compared to those above it, it felt just a bit below, hence the ranking.
