Peter Millar
I own exactly one Peter Millar polo, the Champagne and Caviar, and it doesn't fit me right. I want another one anyway. That's the whole review, but let me earn the word count.
The fit situation is mostly on me. I have the classic fit, and the classic fit runs big. Not "size down and you're set" big, more like "I appear to have borrowed this from a larger, calmer man" big. What I didn't clock until after the shirt was already in my closet is that Peter Millar also makes an athletic cut, and that's the one I should have gone for. Next time it's the athletic fit in a medium, no debate. So if this is your first one, learn from my mistake and check which cut you're actually dropping in the cart, because it matters more here than the size on the tag.
The part that really stands out to me is that the shirt doesn't fit me the way I want it to, and I still want to buy more from this brand. That does not happen with clothing I'm lukewarm on. A polo that fits wrong usually earns one wear and then a slow drift to the back of the drawer. This one didn't get exiled, and the reason is the fabric. It's genuinely good, soft without feeling slick or plasticky, and it moves with you through a swing instead of fighting you for the range of motion. That feel is the whole reason I keep reaching for it, and it's what has me wanting more of the brand.
It also holds up fine in the heat. I'm in Florida, so I'm not going to tell you any shirt makes a July round feel breezy, because none of them do. What I can say is that it breathes and stays comfortable through a full round rather than turning into a wet flag stuck to my back, and it never got in the way of the day. The collar sits right, it doesn't cling, and it looks like it belongs on you. I genuinely don't have a list of complaints.
On price, this is a premium brand and it's priced like one, and after wearing it I get why. The fabric and the finish are where that money goes, and it shows. I'm a sale hunter by nature, so I found mine on a good deal and I'll always tell you it's worth watching for one, but that's my habit talking, not a knock on the shirt. This is a polo I'd happily add to at full price and feel good about, and an even easier yes when a deal comes around.
So where does it land. It's a Take My Money for me, and I'll tell you the honest reason it isn't contending for higher: I've confirmed exactly one piece, in the wrong cut. I want the athletic fit and a couple more shirts on my back before I hand this brand anything bigger. The quality is not in question. The ceiling on Peter Millar is higher than where I'm putting it today, and I expect it might climb once I've got the right fit dialed in. For now, a shirt that fits me wrong and still has me reaching for my wallet is telling me everything I need to know.
