Nope — Not a fan.

The first golf shoe I got when I started playing again a couple years ago was a Christmas gift. I totally understood where they were coming from. I was in a phase of only wearing Jordan high tops, so the gift giver came to the natural conclusion that a golf version of the shoe would be fine. There are a few reasons this didn't work for me, one being the fact that tying a pair of Jordans feels really weird, and the fit of them changes when you do. The comfort here wasn't bad, but I could tell the difference in fit from actually having to tie the shoes. Similar to my complaint about the New Balance 550s, the tread was pretty light here, so if you are looking to gain a bit of traction this is not where I would start. What I will say is that they held up better in the rain than some alternatives, and since they were a high top they served as a nice barrier from the dirt and sand that normally clings to my ankles at the end of a round.

I did feel that I was able to get a good amount of use out of this pair. I had the shoes for roughly eight months before I wore a hole in the heel's padding and ultimately had to stop using them. I came to the same conclusion for this pair as I did with the New Balance shoes: I want a golf brand to make my golf shoes, not an all-around footwear brand.

You may be reading this review and thinking, well what about Nike's other more golf forward shoes? I'm well aware that they make quite a few more specialized golf shoe options, but historically Nikes don't always fit me well outside of the 1s, which again brings me back to wanting a golf branded shoe. Perhaps I am being a little harsh on Nike here, but with so many options for golf shoes I think it is fair to be really picky until you find a brand of shoe you want. With all that being said, if you are a huge Jordan or Nike fan, there is a perk: you can expect the same fit you already know, as long as you lace and tie them the same way (I did not). More than anything, the comfort of knowing what size to get without question is a win.

I think what is most telling is that as I write this, the Nike website doesn't currently have the highs as a golf shoe. You can still find them through StockX and other retailers if there's a pair you are really after, but I have to think the lack of options is a reflection of low sales. The Nike Jordan Golf Shoe gets a Nope from me. The Nike Jordan 1 High Golf Shoe gets a Nope from me. Similar to the New Balance, it's not that it's an awful shoe, but I know there are better options.
